Senior API Engineer (SNS02304)
Job Description
As a Senior API Engineer, you will help shape the digital transformation of municipalities in the Netherlands. You will be responsible for the design, validation, and development of standardized RESTful APIs
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Design, specify, and validate RESTful APIs using OpenAPI v3.x
- Translate municipal information models into logical bounded contexts
- Set up and maintain automated testing for API quality assurance
- Document and manage API contracts and release notes in GitHub
- Serve as the technical contact for municipalities and vendors
- Participate in working groups and field labs (e.g., Common Ground, Omnichannel)
- Support the Product Owner of ZGW APIs and align with architects.
Requirements:
- Completed higher education in Technical Informatics, Computer Science Software Engineering, or similar
- Minimum 3 years of recent experience in a role focused on APIs (API Engineer, Software Engineer, or Backend Developer)
- At least 5 years of experience working with national or municipal standards
- Proven experience in designing and specifying RESTful APIs
- Excellent writing skills for documentation and tutorials.
- Over 7 years of experience with API standards
- Strong background in DevOps, Git/GitHub, CI/CD, and automated API testing
- Experience managing developer communities or working in complex stakeholder environments
- Hands-on experience with both backend and client-side API development
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) and container tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
